The children in 2R learned about Elton John.

Year 3

As part of Book Week, 3M learned about David Bowie. The children have drawn some lovely portraits of David Bowie.

The children in 3H learned about Ada Lovelace (Mathematician and writer)

Year 4

The children in 4B learned about Mary Anning (English palaeontologist).

The children in 4C learned about Dwayne Johnson (American actor and businessman).

Year 5

5W studied the life of Mary Shelley, who was the author of the original Frankenstein book, using the book “Little People, Big Dreams: Mary Shelley”. We used this to write our own Frankenstein-inspired narratives. We also created our own cover of a “Little People, BIG DREAMS” book, as if each child grew up to have a book written about them for the series. They created an illustration of themselves when they are older, which showed what they will be famous for.

Class 5T read about Vanessa Nakate- an African environmental activist. We created protest signs and demonstrated in the school quad. We used the ‘Little People, Big Dreams’ front cover to re-create our own versions and drew incredible self-portraits.

Year 5, as a whole, also had a social reading event in the hall, where they browsed, shared and chatted about books from a range of themes. The themes included our Y5 topics, Y5 recommendations, poetry, graphic novels and picture books.

Year 6

In 6LB, we have learnt about Stevie Wonder using the Little People, Big Dreams books. We thought carefully about how living with a disability could have a huge impact on the lives of others. We learnt about what it means to be blind and then wrote setting descriptions based on a video we only heard. We purposely didn’t watch the video to understand how hard it is to visualise something as a blind person. We also drew our own self portraits as the Little People, Big Dreams front covers.

In 6NB, we have explored the life of Stephen Hawking, an English theoretical physicist and cosmologist. We were so inspired by the Little People, BIG DREAMS book about Stephen Hawking that we decided to write a fact file all about him. We also recreated the front cover of our book with our own self portrait.
