Y6 Residential

First Day: The children arrived at Austerfield and went straight to Wild Art, where they made God's Eyes and mandalas. In the afternoon, they moved on to den building. Their dens were then put to the test by Storm Gleaves, Storm Thompson and Storm Russell - some of which proved not to be storm-proof! The children are now enjoying some well-earned free time before tea. They are making the most of the outdoor space, playing games and spending time with their friends. Everyone is in great spirits and having a fantastic first day!

Second Day:

The children have had another fantastic day at Austerfield! This morning, they took part in an orienteering challenge, working brilliantly in their teams. A big congratulations to Justine, Gracie C and Kendra, whose team came first! 🏆

This afternoon, the children enjoyed a nature walk, where they explored the surroundings and created maps as they went. The children embraced the outdoors by taking off their shoes and socks to really become "at one with nature" during their walk.

Lunch was a big hit today, with sausage rolls, sandwiches, popcorn chicken, crisps and cake on the menu. Safe to say there were lots of happy faces and full tummies.

Mrs Beresford and Miss Thompson have both commented on how lovely the children have been - they have been a credit to the school with their excellent behaviour and enthusiasm.

Unfortunately, Mrs Beresford wasn't quite as lucky as everyone else and was stung by a wasp! She's being very brave about it and is carrying on with a smile. We're looking forward to seeing what adventures the rest of the day brings!

Further Update – Second Day

The adventures continued this afternoon. During their nature activities, the children enjoyed bug hunting, catching and then releasing the creatures they found. They also spent time listening to the trees and really enjoyed being outdoors in the natural surroundings.

There was plenty of laughter in the sand area too, where the children had great fun burying each other in the sand (don't worry - they were all safely dug back out again! 😄).

Ruby T has been embracing the peaceful surroundings with a spot of meditation, while Levi-James has been enjoying a well-earned rest after another busy day of activities.

Everyone is still having a fantastic time and making the most of every moment at Austerfield!

Third Day:

The children have had a wonderful final morning at Austerfield, enjoying a pond dipping session.

They discovered lots of fascinating pond creatures and invertebrates, including water scorpions, water spiders, fish, tadpoles, stonefly nymphs, beetles, dragonflies and many more. The children loved exploring the pond and learning about the different wildlife they found.

We're sure they'll have lots to tell you when they arrive home this afternoon!

It sounds like everyone has had a fantastic residential, full of fun, learning and new experiences. We hope the children have made lots of happy memories to take home with them. A big thank you to all the staff who helped make the trip such a success.
