Welcome to Class 10. My name is Miss Bell. I am one of the year 1 teachers this year. Mrs Parks is also part of our team and she is our class LSA.
Class 9 and 10 will have P.E slots on a Monday and Wednesday afternoon. Please can you make sure P.E kit comes to school on a Monday please. If you prefer you can ask you children to leave their P.E at school for the week or the term to ensure it is in school when needed.
Children are also encouraged to bring a water bottle to school so they have access to a drink through the day.
Homework is set half termly in KS1. The homework is a learning menu in which you and your children can pick at least 4 things from the list to complete.
Throughout Early Years and KS1 Children are expected to support their reading, writing and spelling skills through a daily session of Phonics. The scheme of work we follow in our school to deliver phonics is Letters and Sounds. The scheme works by teaching children different sounds (phonemes) so they can put these sounds together and record them (graphemes) to spell the words they are wanting to use in their writing. Each day the children revisit sounds they've already learnt, Learn a new sound, practise using the sound to spell words and then apply it to their own writing. The children in EYFS and KS1 are taught a lesson of phonics every day and are also given opportunities to use this knowledge throughout the day in their work.
At the end of Year 1 the children are expected to completing a mandatory Phonics Screening Check to test their knowledge and understanding . To complete this test the children need to show they are confident using all of the sounds they have learnt throughout EYFS and Year 1.
